EPK Program 3-year-old children
We now have an EPK (Expanded PreK) class for children who are three-years-old by December 1st. If you live in the Syracuse City School District and meet the age requirement, this program is FREE! We do accept children outside of the district for a monthly fee.
Children learn best by doing – by exploring, playing and being “hands-on” learners. From creative art projects to a focus on phonics and math, the preschool Core Knowledge curriculum and activities at Erwin Nursery School is built for your enthusiastic learner.
The Core Knowledge Preschool Sequence reflects each of the established critical areas in the development of young children. Within these areas, the Preschool Sequence focuses on nine domains or content areas; each domain covers developmentally-appropriate goals for three-year-olds. These goals are broken down into specific, measurable, and sequential skills, upon which teachers plan and implement the Core Knowledge curriculum.
Our Second Step program increases kids’ school success and decreases problem behaviors by teaching them skills for learning—such as paying attention, listening, and sitting still—as well as how to manage their emotions, solve problems, and make friends. All these skills help prepare kids for kindergarten and to be more successful in school and in life.
Second Step has five Units, each lasting for six or seven weeks. Here are the skills taught in each unit.
