Position Description

Responsibly, manage a full-day Universal PreKindergarten classroom in accordance with the goals of Erwin PreSchool, Syracuse City School District, and with the NY State Education Department Pre-K Standards.

Qualifications

Two years of formal teaching experience with Preschool or PreK aged children.

Knowledgeable in conducting observational assessments and creates reports with Teaching Strategies Gold.

Possess an NYS issued Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or related field.

NYS Teacher Certification required - or- 3-year plan to earn a Certification.

CPR/First-Aid and MAT Certificate preferred.

 

Essential Job Functions

  1. Plan and implement the daily classroom program as directed by the Syracuse City School District and Erwin PreSchool as they relate to all children enrolled in the program. Individualized, age-appropriate, play-based activities following NYS Early Learning Standards, the CKLA, Second Step Social-Emotional Curriculum, and SCSD Math Modules must be evident.

  2. Create a daily instructional schedule, keeping in mind children must be actively engaged in center choice-time at least 90 minutes in the morning and 60-90 minutes in the afternoon. Post the schedule, update as needed, and submit a copy to the Director.

  3. Use a variety of teaching techniques including modeling, observing, demonstrating, open-ended questioning, and referencing individual interests while engaging with children as they play. Whole group “circle-times”, which greet, introduce/reinforce CKLA and math concepts, share stories, involve children in music/movement/games, etc. must be very engaging, fun, and short.

  4. Ensure that all activities offered are carried out in a safe and efficient manner. Always ensure proper supervision.

  5. Complete the Daily Health Check and the Classroom Safety Checklist.

  6. Provide engaging play-based, age-appropriate, discovery centers with intentional efficient management, and flexibility which support the CKLA Domains and Math Modules.

  7. Accurately maintain daily attendance records and digitally submit them to the SCSD. Count and Compare several times a day.

  8. Request appropriate equipment, curriculum materials, and supplies to support the curriculum.

  9. Support, enforce, and follow all classroom and school policies. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor with all staff members and families. Model responsible adult behaviors including regular attendance and punctuality.

  10. Provide positive guidance to children that include positive language, positive reinforcement, and redirecting.

  11. Keep classroom neat, clean, safe, organized and inviting for children and families.

  12. Evaluate the performance of the children in the program in all areas of development, using formal and informal observational assessment tools including Teaching Strategies Gold and Peabody Vocabulary.

  13. Create weekly lesson plans in accordance with curriculum themes and skills to be developed. Submit

      these to the Director during the week prior to implementation and post them in the classroom.

14. Involve TA’s on your team in weekly lesson plans and routines. Invite their ideas. Ensure they are clear about each day’s activities/objectives, and              their role in the plans’ implementation. Be supportive, positive, and open with them. Assist the Director in the TA’s supervision and evaluations.

15.  Assist the Director in maintaining your children’s records by submitting required forms

16.  Maintain ongoing positive family engagement, involvement, and communication. Assist with planning and implementation of family events.

17.  Attend/complete all EPS, SCSD, and OCFS professional development, as required.

18.  Attend all Leadership meetings and general staff meetings as scheduled by the director.

19.  As a Mandated Reporter, follow procedures to immediately report suspected child abuse and neglect.

20.  Perform other duties, as needed, which support the program’s mission/goals and in the spirit of whole- school teamwork.

 

UPK Teacher Assistant I, Erwin PreSchool

Position Description

Assist the Lead UPK teacher in promoting the social, emotional, physical, language, and cognitive development of the children in the program. Teaming with the Lead Teacher, provide and maintain a safe environment for children while ensuring that children are always adequately supervised. Engage children by referencing their interests and asking open-ended questions.

Qualifications

Teaching assistant experience a plus.

Minimum of two years of formal care experience with Preschool or PreK aged children.

CDA, Associates, Bachelors in Early Childhood Education or related field. 

NYS TA Certification preferred.

CPR/First-Aid Certificate preferred.

  8. Collaborate with the Lead Teacher in creating weekly lesson plans. Actively team with the LT to implement all Universal Prekindergarten objectives

  9. Assist in child assessment by daily recording child observations and help to enter them in Teaching Strategies Gold. Use other SCSD and NYS assessment tools as requested by the LT.

  10. Attend all required UPK, EPS, staff development. Become functionally familiar with all UPK curriculum topics/objectives, and assessment tools.

  11. As a Mandated Reporter, follow procedures to immediately report suspected child abuse and neglect.

  12. Collaborate with the LT to check daily attendance/sign-in sheet for accuracy, conduct the daily health check, and complete the daily classroom safety check. Count and Compare several times a day.

  13. Concisely complete incident reports, as needed, obtaining required signatures, making copies for parents and Director.

  14. Maintain confidentiality regarding all children, staff members, and families. Follow all other EPS policies and procedures. Become familiar with and follow all OCFS Childcare Regulations, especially those concerned with child supervision, ratio, health, and safety.

  15. Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor with all staff members and families. Model responsible adult behaviors including regular attendance and punctuality.

Position Description
The Administrative Assistant will report to Erwin PreSchool, daily or as needed. Assists the Director in the administration of office activities and performs secretarial and highly responsible clerical and administrative work of a confidential nature under limited supervision. The Administrative Assistant is responsible for creating a smooth-running environment for the children and teachers in the program. 

 

Qualifications
Minimum two years of office administrative experience required.
Associates degree required.
Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Perform general office duties including answering phones, greeting families, typing, filing, sorting, and handling incoming and outgoing mail.

  2. Inventories, orders, and stocks supplies for the Preschool and staff. Inputs orders and coordinates with vendors for timely delivery.

  3. Track, maintain and report on Preschool budget including processing and purchasing supply requests, maintain inventory of supplies, track balances and provide reports.

  4. Assists staff in operation of and troubleshoot copy center facilities, materials, and equipment.

  5. Appropriately maintain and secure confidential records and inquiries. Professionally represent the Preschool in interactions with parents, community, staff, and children.

  6. Assist Director with enrollment inquires, school visits, and filling and updating records on children.

  7. Greet parents, children, and staff in main office and direct as appropriate.

  8. Supervise children in main office area and/or in classrooms as needed.

  9. Maintain accurate and current teacher records for Preschool including contact information, leave usage, absences, injuries, and status.

  10. Serve as substitute coordinator for the Preschool contacting substitutes for all teachers and staff as required.

  11. Collects teacher inventories quarterly and tracks throughout the year.

  12. Assist with collection of fees and billing.

  13. Format and complete special projects as assigned by Director.
